Weekly report for 6 November 2026: Transit times, border conditions and upcoming departures

23 days. That's how long our latest rail shipment took to travel from Zhengzhou to Europe.
In this post, we’ll look at our data from the past six months to see how that compares to typical transit times. If you're planning a shipment from China, it’ll help you decide how much time you should realistically allow.

Latest rail freight transit times
Our latest shipment left Zhengzhou on 5 October and reached its reported destination 23 days later, on 27 October.
Looking back at our shipments between June and October this year, transit times ranged from 18 to 31 days, with a median of 25 days. Sea freight took longer, with our tracked shipments from China to Northern Europe taking between 39 and 79 days. Of course, these aren't direct like-for-like comparisons, as the shipments had different origins and destinations. However, if you've got stock sitting in China and can't afford to wait another six or eight weeks for it to arrive, you can see why rail might be a safer option.
What affects Asia to Europe rail freight transit times?
Border delays are often the reason some rail shipments take longer than others. Two shipments that left Zhengzhou in late May took 31 days to reach their destinations, spending 16 of those days at border crossings. Although, sometimes the delays are caused by other factors, such as terminal handling, disrupted train schedules, and connections between different rail networks. For instance, three shipments arriving in October took 30 days, even though they spent just four or five days at the borders. We can't say exactly what caused the delay in these cases, but it shows why looking at the whole journey is important, rather than just focussing on time spent at borders.
Latest border conditions: 2 November 2026
Some of our shipments are being slowed down at borders this week. According to our latest tracking report, nine shipments are currently waiting. - Seven at Dostyk, on the China–Kazakhstan border. Six have already been waiting seven days. - Two at the Belarus–Poland border, one waiting four days and the other seven.
